European Leaders Condemn US Action as ‘Coercion’
European leaders such as Emmanuel Macron accused Washington of “bullying and threats”, after the visa restrictions targeted individuals that were at the heart of efforts to introduce laws regulating American tech companies.
“For too long, European activists have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to pressure American platforms to punish American viewpoints they disagree with,” stated a senior US official in a social media post. “This government will not stand for these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”

Nations including Germany, Spain, and the UK, alongside numerous EU representatives joined France in condemning the move.
The restrictions were imposed this week on a former EU commissioner who helped draft the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA), as well as several activists fighting false information, from two in Germany and two in the UK.
